The historical two-story Milan Inn was built in 1845 as one of only twenty Ohio Stagecoach Inns. The original Greek Gothic styled building structure shares much local history within the village, as well as spreading throughout most U.S. cities and states. It was built during the time of early commerce with ship building, canal growth, stagecoach days, and birth of Thomas Alva Edison, Milan’s hometown hero.

This original historical landmark, located on a separate lot on the south side of the Village Square, has been resilient while withstanding a major fire in the 1890’s and an adjacent Milan Ledger building explosion in July 1969.Thereafter, the Inn was renovated and remodeled a few times, but with full intention of maintaining and preserving its rich history and character. The Inn had sleeping rooms until 1956, at which time it became a most popular restaurant and banquet facility, known as the Milan Inn, the Inn of Fine Foods. The Inn has been used as several different businesses over the years, e.g., restaurant, tavern, bakery, hardware, and antique shop.

Most recently, it’s present owners, Tom and Nancy Gfell, renovated and restored the 1st floor into a five room antique shop and the 2nd floor into a short term rental/multi-purpose unit. Thus, with Tom and Nancy’s ownership of the Milan Inn in 2005, the building has developed and evolved as the new Milan Inn-tiques.

Relax and enjoy the rich history and charm of historic Milan, our Inn, and antique shop.
